My Bio

Hello.  Thank you for taking the time to read about my counseling background.
Within you lie the answers to help you cope with feelings of anxiety and/or depression and those life tasks that have you feeling stuck.  Working in partnership, I am honored by the opportunity to help you examine your inter- and intra-personal relationships.  What we do as adults often copies early patterns modeled by our important caregivers.  Without blame or judgment, you can begin to identify those patterns and learn to make conscious, intentional decisions about how you would like to live in the present.

Research consistently indicates that the best predictor of treatment success is the quality of the counseling relationship.  Therefore, it is important that I work collaboratively with you to co-create the goals for counseling, negotiate the approaches that I utilize to meet your goals, and foster trust and transparency with gentle, honest feedback.

I abide by the ethical and professional competency standards of the Washington State Department of Health, State of Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, American Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counselor Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Washington School Counselor Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, and the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling.

My Focus

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Washington) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (Oregon) I have professional interests in the areas of relational psychology, relationship counseling, and clinical supervision of licensure candidates.  A Professional School Counselor for ten years, I currently work full time at an elementary school and provide comprehensive social/emotional, academic, and career counseling to students and family support to caregivers.  I believe in the prevention of emotional suffering and choose to invest the majority of my counseling time working with children, equipping them with a growth mindset and skills to handle the challenges of adolescence.  Adults encounter plenty of stumbling blocks on our personal journeys.  I equally enjoy working with adults and recognize the unique developmental needs during each stage of life.

My Training & Approaches

I am a Doctoral Candidate in Counseling at Oregon State University (Corvallis), earned my M.Ed. in School Counseling at Western Washington University (Bellingham), and hold a B.S. in Psychology from Washington State University (Pullman).  Before relocating to Vancouver, I maintained a part-time private practice for adult individuals and couples in Portland. My related professional background includes school counseling, career/college counseling, milieu supervision in a child/adolescent psychiatric hospital, family, couple and group therapy in a training clinic, support groups for male survivors of sexual assault/abuse, Emergency Room advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, pro-bono therapy with Veterans, and adjunct teaching.  Social Justice and systemic oppression are often a lens through which I view emotional distress.  My goal is to help you identify and utilize your personal strengths and inner resilience.  I will be your advocate.
